A Look Back at 2011

So Eighty Ate Cakes is finally on the blog train!  After much coaxing from friends and colleagues, my attempt at blogging has found a beginning.  What better way to start a new year than by looking back at the old and starting fresh with the new?

2011 was a VERY busy year as our mother-daughter team took on more fantastic challenges!  We were honoured to work with more brides, excited to start teaching, and ecstatic at the launch of our online store.

On top of all the weddings, Autumn began with a class at the West Island Women's Centre.  It was refreshing to be able to go back to my roots (as a trained teacher) and include my passion for cake decorating in the curriculum.  The Introduction to Icing students were incredibly talented and I hope to see them in the Spring for the Introduction to Fondant Course!

As a byproduct of cake decorating and teaching, it was becoming blatantly obvious that there was a lack of cake decorating supplies in the Quebec, especially in the West Island.  This situation led me down a rigorous road of research of suppliers and distributors, which in the end gave birth to our Eighty Ate Cakes store.

Phew, it has been a wonderfully challenging and inspiring year, but I really can't wait for more in 2012!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Stay tuned for our favourite cakes of 2011!
